Malala Fund Website Design
In 2019, the Malala Fund was given a whole new look. They updated their logo, fonts, colors, and had a new set of icons. The new brand was based heavily on the colors, patterns and shapes found in traditional fabrics around the world, and felt youthful and uplifting. They were now in need for an updated website. The task at hand was to take this new brand, and translate it to the functionality of a web presence. They needed a site that told Malala’s story, inspired change through activism and donations, and felt uplifting and youthful. The main challenge was keeping these new colors and fonts compliant in order to maintain legibility and accessibility for everyone.
The Design Process
The content was rich in large photos, clear faces and hopeful stories, and represented all of their different international partners. The new brand included a set of icons that were built on a grid system. These acted on the site as a sort of twinkle, and brought playfulness to the site, attention to subjects and guided the viewer across the site. The design process started by organizing the brand into a playbook for the website, called a style tile. Wire frames organized the content, and then the mock ups were created.
Responsive Layouts
The website was designed with responsive layouts, so that it could be easily transitioned across device sizes such as desktops, laptops, tablets and mobile phones. Thus insuring readability, organization and consistency.
