FCS 2020 Annual Report

Focused Community Strategies is dedicated to creating thriving, flourishing neighborhoods, in areas such as South Atlanta, that support the current residents through economic development, training and consulting, mixed-income housing, and more all while giving the residents ownership and a role to play in their transformed community. In a year like 2020, FCS found themselves challenged and broken; only to reassemble and reaffirm what they’re really all about. With that being said, they chose the theme of “brutal and beautiful,” nodding towards the beauty that came out of the hardships this year provided.

FCS emphasized 2020 as a year that shook the foundation of who they are and reassembled them even stronger than before. The booklet showcased this idea with shifted blocks, offset alignment and moving lines.

Stripped of their usual array of bright branded colors, this booklet focused on a more serious color palette of black and white, leaving only images to showcase any color and emphasized the white space throughout the book, letting the story tell itself with minor distractions and information.

The intensity of systematic racial injustice, coupled with a global pandemic crashed over South Atlanta and challenged FCS in a way they never have had before. But in that struggle, their deep connection to the community equipped them to weather the storm, and to act and support their neighbors. It was imperative that the report highlighted these themes.
